We all know about the sponsored ads features by facebook on facebook itself. It was already very advanced in case of targeting a particular group or type of people. Now its has evolved a bit more and has now added the ability for the advertisers to target the ads to customer who have already once used their services.
Whats being cooked in the facebook’s kitchen could be something like this. It will allow the companies or people who want to show some ads to target their services based on their phone numbers and email addresses. These contact information would lead the ads directly to those who have already once used that particular product in real life. This new tool is going to be launched next week and according to the facebook’s spokesperson this will help build the customer and producer’s relation and the advertisement would help them in interacting once again.
When some question were raised related to the security measures, it turned out to be good news for those who have privacy concerns since the social network stated that this whole process is completely secure. This whole procedure could just summarized in the following lines, that facebook is doing nothing but using your email address and existing phone number to find you particularly and then serve you the hot advertisement dish by letting those businesses use that data.
In this whole process of advertisement targeting, facebook won’t be able to gain any type of new or sensitive data, as the email address and numbers are already there on facebook. To ensure this, facebook is using a new type of procedure. The data which it receives from the advertisers about you, it encrypts or hashes it and then that data is not stored but directly used by the advertising scripts of facebook. Hashing is a security that scrambles all your data into combinations of numbers and alphabets etc.
Once the business firms are able to use that data to place the ads, facebook dumps the hashed data of users, at least that’s what they are saying. So finally if a business wants to reach out to the same user again then he will have to go through the whole process again, since nothing is being stored for later use. The new methodology accepted by facebook was available for clients in the Facebook Power Editor, which is a virtual toolbox or program that that is used by advertisers to create a facebook ad.
Nowadays its getting clear and clearer that facebook Is trying desperately to get its advertisement system as good as that of Google, but so far the revenue reports and forecast reports don’t look that green.
