LOVEFiLM a better alternative to Netflix?
With increasing demand of data consumption on internet there has been lots of changes and technology which made life simpler and more interesting. There has always been a pre-reserved corner for entertainment everywhere in the world - no matter where you go, entertainment is what you will find around.
Online movie streaming and renting has been a common event and company's like NetFlix and LOVEFiLM are fighting for the first position to compete each other.
Netflix are pushing out an immense amount of content at launch and, like its rival, granting new users a month's free trial to check the service out. But who needs two streaming subscriptions? Surely no one watches that many movies? Heck even Scorsese himself probably only subscribes to one.
Many says LOVEFiLM is way better than NetFlix for UK and neighbour teritory, some says there is no one who can beat NetFlix. Going through the services and price tag, it seems we already have the winner.
Recently, we got a query from one of our member -- "Which of the two is better -- NetFlix or LOVEFiLM?"
When asked where he is from, he replied "UK".
Well, It is obvious we did a thorough servey and found out some interesting conclusions. Let's have a look at it.
This website served the best comparision between the two and helped us write this article.
Features
Both NetFlix and LOVEFiLM offer unlimited online streaming of content over the internet to your PC and other capable devices. There is a vast collection of content and movies to choose from and both are reliable.
The only thing which is different is that LOVEFiLM has broader number of UK movies and offers some custom version of the content just to suite your needs. Assuming you haven’t chewed up all the available bandwidth from your broadband provider, LOVEFiLM would be the choice for streaming online; its smaller bandwidth requirement and optimised stream performs better than Netflix on most connected TVs and consoles.
LOVEFiLM's unique feature - Feature currently only offered by LOVEFiLM is the postal delivery of discs to your door. For the same starting monthly price as Netflix’s streaming-only service, you can also arrange to have three discs posted to their door (one at a time) for home viewing; the more suitable choice for those whose televisions don’t allow for internet access and would rather not crane their necks over a laptop or tablet computer.
Quality
If you're into video quality, then streaming is not normally what you think of first. This is all to be changed with Netflix who delivers a quite frankly astounding level of quality should you have the bandwith that allows it.
Lovefilm has now given itself a much needed update an gone HD as well. It's only 1080p on PC and Mac mind, dropping to 720p on the Xbox 360 and Samsung and LG connected TVs. This ensures that Netflix still has the trump card when it comes to quality. Samsung connected TVs also apply quite a lot of picture processing to streamed video, which doesn't always help.
It might not be Blu-ray but 1080p streaming on Netflixwith without stuttering and 5.1 channel audio is brilliant. Not everything can run at the top resolution and it takes about a minute or so for the video quality to stabilise, but Netflix definitely takes the win here.
Plan and subscription Charges
Netflix’s one-shot price of £5.99 per month, while offering very good value for money for the service it provides, doesn’t compare with LOVEFiLM’s range of services offered for staggered amounts.
Only looking for the occasional disc with one Instant view? LOVEFiLM provides this for the exact same price, adding a sense of occasion to family TV viewings rather than having to boot up the PC. A £5.99 non-streaming starter pack also allows for two discs per month, including games.
LOVEFiLM offers more options for subscribers who wish to receive more discs in one go — meaning that you won’t have to wait for the second half of a series that you’ve just finished the first part of. There’s also an option to take the Payment Holiday from LOVEFiLM — where you can pause your membership for up to three months if it looks like a busy few weeks ahead with no time for kicking back with a film — or even if you feel you need to save a bit of cash.
Conclusion
The service Netflix offers on different hardware is just that tiny bit better and the ability to stream on your iPhone over 3G is an absolutely brilliant one. Netflix does everything right on the application front and is a unified experience on every device. We really like the fact that even newbies to the service can pick it up and use it on whatever hardware they have without having to re-learn much for each device.
When it really comes down to it though, what you're after most from all these services is good films for a good price and that's where Lovefilm wins. It just has a more current selection of content to watch with most of it films that you're more likely to want to view. Ultimately this, coupled with the fact that it's just a pound cheaper, means we have to give the title to Lovefilm. Don’t get us wrong - taking the month free trial for both and seeing what each has to offer will easily sort out which is more relevant for you. Just make sure you go for Lovefilm first. Right now, we think it's better.
Which do you prefer? Let get it on the record:
